William D. Haueisen, Ph.D. – Chief Executive Officer

When you choose a market research consultant, you want someone who’s always thinking three steps ahead. At Sterling, that someone would be Bill Haueisen. From Sterling’s inception, he has stayed focused on the future. Thanks to Bill, you can count on Sterling to continually blend new market research approaches and evolving technology with existing methodologies.

Bill has been active in the research industry for more than 35 years. That’s no surprise given that he was born to be inquisitive. Prior to founding Sterling, he was President of Nova Research in San Francisco and New York, a division of Addison Consultancy, PLC, in London. Before that, he was Group Vice President for primary research at Management Horizons, the retail consulting division of Price Waterhouse. He also managed his own firm, Haueisen Associates, which specialized in site location research for shopping centers and other large commercial real estate ventures. Haueisen Associates was merged into Sterling Research in 1987.

As a market research consultant, Bill has implemented an impressive list of innovations. He developed the QUICKSCAN© system to save time and money associated with data entry through document imaging. He has pioneered high-tech image research tools such as eye movement tracking and image tachistoscopes. In the 90s he helped develop a flexible Integrated Voice Response (IVR) service called Go800®. His most recent innovation—Report-IT!SM—is Sterling’s proprietary online reporting and data mining system.

Bill has published dozens of articles in trade journals and frequently speaks to trade groups and professional associations about market research, best practices and new technology. He’s the author of a college textbook on microcomputers and business systems, has served on the editorial boards of the National Mall Monitor and the Journal of Retailing, and is listed in the Who’s Who for the Frontiers of Science.

Bill is a native of Columbus, Ohio, and earned his Ph.D. from Ohio State University’s School of Business Administration in Management Science. He also holds Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Communications. Outside of Sterling, he sits on the Board of Trustees at Capital University, the Tampa Bay Master Chorale, the Pinellas County Economic Development Council, and has served on the Wachovia Small Business Advisory Council and The Florida Orchestra Board of Directors. Bill’s passion for learning has earned him six college degrees, a pilot’s license, and a Master Merchant Marine designation with a 100-ton-rating. He is also nearly fluent in Latin, Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. Bill’s one smart cookie—in any language.
